Kids Yoga - Yoga Cat Roger

“Hi Mary,

This is a picture of my cat Roger doing Dolphin pose. You may notice that there is something on Roger’s fur.

There is a funny story about that. One day mum and I were playing in our backyard drawing smiley faces with chalk on the pavers. Then along came Roger wanting to have a pat on his tummy and rolled on the smiley face we had just drawn. The smiley face drawing ended up on his fur!”  - Jorja (8-12 yo Kids Yoga class – Berwick)

I think the picture on Rogers fur looks like another animal.  Can you see one?

Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II) – Body Yoga Berwick

One of my favourite yoga poses to teach in our Beginner Classes at Body Yoga, Berwick, is Warrior II. It strengthens the legs and teaches us how to support ourselves from our base up.  Like all warriors we feel powerful and grounded in this pose. Warrior pose also tones the abdominal organs.

In our Body Yoga Kids classes the children love to do all of the Warrior poses – they love the strength!

In our Advanced Yoga classes, at Body Yoga Berwick, sometimes we like to simply hang about.  This is a variation of Virasana in the ropes and as you can see is a real hit with everyone! Our purpose built yoga studio with wall ropes is the perfect space to turn your world upside down and challenge yourself whilst being in a safe and supportive environment.

 

Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) – Body Yoga Berwick

This pose stretches the spine and improves elasticity and can be beneficial to those with slipped disks when practised correctly. It also tones the abdominal organs.

To have a bit of fun in this pose roll to the right side and stretch the legs and chest. Inhale come back to centre then exhale and roll to the left side (Parsva Dhanurasana).  The kids love this one!

Tadasana (Mountain Pose) – Body Yoga Berwick

Tadasana is one of my favourite asanas (postures) and is practiced regularly at Body Yoga Berwick, but not just in our Beginners classes. It is important for all levels of yoga students.  It not only grounds and centres us but it also teaches good posture and alignment.  It can improve flat feet, alleviate knee, hip and back problems and assist with neck pain. Tadasana sets the foundation for just about every other pose. (more…)

Our feet are often the most neglected part of our entire bodies yet they are our foundation. Standing incorrectly can cause foot problems, painful knees and hips, back pain, shoulder pain and even neck pain. Many podiatrists are now sending their patients to yoga as a means of correcting flat feet and poor posture.  Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Osteopaths have long recognised the need for correct posture and they too encourage patients to take up yoga in order to improve overall posture and good alignment. Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) at Body Yoga Classes in Berwick

Trikonasana is a standing asana (pose) and is well practised at the BodyYoga – Berwick beginner classes.  It is a great asana for stimulating the digestive system so perfect to add to your morning routine to help get things moving! Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose) – Body Yoga Berwick

Downward Facing Dog Pose is a regular feature in most of the Beginner Yoga classes at Body Yoga, Berwick. It is a great pose for resting the heart, alleviating back pain and also great for headaches and colds. (more…)
